Her mom worked as a clerk for the town of Wilton Manors. Nancy has an older brother named Tracy Eugene Stafford (born January 2, 1948). He served as mayor of Wilton Manors, Florida from 1986 to 1990, then in the Florida House of Representatives for a decade (1990 to 2000).
Raised as a Southern Baptist, the actress is a practicing Christian. She is a product of Ft. Lauderdale High School and the University of Florida from where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
In the late 70s, Nancy Stafforda competed and won Miss Florida 1976, after which she competed with other contestants in the 1977 Miss America pageant. The actress’ first job was as a public relations specialist, after what she was signed by the New York firm Ford Model Agency as a model.

Stafford also appeared in the ABC series Companions from 1986 to 1987 and later as Michelle Thomas in the forensic drama television series, Matlock. Her role in the project lasted from 1987 until 1992 when she withdrew from the series following the relocation of her filming.
Shortly after ending her contract on Matlock, Nancy transitioned into public speaking and later hosted the ’90s talk show, Main Floor. This was followed by another subtitled event: Love, Marriage and Stinkin’ Thinkin, which she hosted with New York native Mark Gungor in 2008.
